Part of Hirono Borter's ongoing Reimagining Bach series, Prism explores new musical possibilities through a creative dialogue with the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Drawing inspiration from the Prelude of Bach's Cello Suite No. 3 in C Major, the work weaves newly composed material around Bach's original music, creating a colorful and imaginative fusion of past and present.
Like light refracted through a prism, familiar musical ideas are transformed through shifting harmonies, textures, and perspectives. The result is a work that honors Bach's timeless artistry while inviting performers and audiences to experience it through a fresh contemporary lens.
